Services Provided by the Education Team

Children's Work/Youth Work
The Officers for Children and Youth offer a range of training, advice and support for churches working with young people. For more information see the Children / Youth Work section.

Inset
RE Advisers offer a range of In-service training for teachers in RE, collective worship and spiritual development.  Advice and support is offered to schools according to their specific needs.

Service Level Agreement
Church schools in the Diocese are entitled to take up the SLA in order to purchase curriculum development and in–service training as outlined above.  Currently membership fees range from £4.00 per pupil in a small school to £1.20 per pupil in a secondary school.

Inspections
Church schools must undergo a denominational inspection (known as Section 48 SIAS – Statutory Inspection of Church Schools). This covers RE and collective worship in Aided schools and collective worship only in Controlled Schools.  Schools will also be inspected on Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development, and the standard of the ethos expected in a church school.

The Diocesan RE Advisers act as consultants in helping schools prepare for inspection.

Governor Training
Some Governor training is provided by Diocesan staff for the whole range of responsibilities that Governors undertake.

Buildings
Support is provided to Aided  schools in building projects they wish to undertake.  This support guides schools through their liaising with  planners, architects etc. and helps the school see through to completion its building project.  This project could be from building a block of  toilets, to a whole school rebuild! This work is undertaken by the Executive Schools Officer.

Time Travelling
Time travelling! – began in 1995 after years of planning and preparation.  The aim of Time Travelling! is to provide schools with a quality educational experience through classroom materials, resources and a pilgrimage day at Southwell Minster.  The intention now is to take Time Travelling! out into churches in the diocese. This post is managed over at the Minster and is closely linked to the Education Department.
