The Dean of Womens Ministry

The Revd Sarah Clark, Rector of Clifton Team Ministry, has been appointed as the new Dean of Women’s Ministry, advising the Bishop of Southwell & Nottingham on issues relating to women’s ministry across the diocese.

Sarah, takes up her post with immediate effect, following the resignation of the Revd Canon Ruth Worsley, who has moved from the area for a new post in the Diocese of Southwark in London.

She said; “I was very glad to be able to accept the Bishop's invitation to be the next Dean of Women's Ministry. The role of the Dean is to ensure that matters relating to women in ministry are voiced, considered and acted upon in the life of the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham. I look forward to working with my colleagues in ministry, both men and women, lay and ordained, to help this to happen in a way that builds on the work that has already been done and further enriches our ministry and mission throughout our Diocese.'

Sarah, who is originally from the Welsh Valleys, worked as a civil servant before being ordained in 1998. She became a curate in Nottingham at St James’ Church, Porchester, before moving to Carlton-in-Lindrick, where she later took on the additional coordination role of Area Dean for Worksop Deanery.

During her time in Worksop Deanery she was very involved in the reorganisation of the deaneries combining three deaneries into the new deanery of Bassetlaw and Bawtry. In 2009 she moved to Nottingham to become Team Rector at Clifton, which includes an outer urban estate with three churches and a population of some 28,000 – the largest in parish in the diocese.

She said: “I love living in Clifton it has a very good local community where people still care for each other and it’s a really beautiful place to live with green fields around and the river nearby.”

Sarah is involved in Christian Spirituality and Spiritual Accompaniment in the diocese, with particular interest in Ignation Spirituality (linked to the founder of the Jesuits). She enjoys walking, sport and growing vegetables, when she has time, and bird watching in her spare time.
