Bishop to visit Winter shelter for homeless

The Bishop of Sherwood, the Rt Revd Tony Porter, will be visiting the Winter Shelter in the centre of Nottingham tonight ( Monday, 7th January 2008) at 9pm.

The Winter Shelter at Thomas Helwys Baptist Church, Church Street, Lenton, in Nottingham, offers hot soup and shelter for the night during the coldest months of the year. The Bishop will meet with volunteers who offer the service and those coming to spend the night.

Bishop Tony said: "Having just returned from Natal in South Africa, where I saw the squalor and hardship faced by the homeless there, I see it as a great privilege to thank those who are caring for the homeless in Nottingham in the middle of this harsh, cold wet winter."
